Acupuncture, herbal medicine, lifestyle changes and Emotional Freedom Techniques [EFT], can be extremely helpful to those suffering from PTSD. This syndrome affects as many as 5 million Americans and can be a result of any type of trauma.
Traumatic events are a shock to the nervous system and to the energy system of the body. Trauma disrupts the flow of qi and generates imbalance in the organs. All of this results in emotional and physical instability and can linger for years after the events.
Acupuncture restores balance to the qi flow and calms the shen or spirit. Years of living in a state of high anxiety that often accompanies PTSD takes a toll on the body and mind. With the appropriate herbal formulas, acupuncture and lifestyle changes, the wear and tear on the body can be healed.
Emotional Freedom Techniques [EFT] is of profound value in treating PTSD. EFT is a simple technique of tapping on specific acupuncture points while specific phrases relating to the trauma are spoken. It accesses the part of the brain where emotional memories are stored and re-patterns the neural responses to stimuli. This effectively changes how we respond to the memory or anything that triggers the emotions around the memory. In Chinese medical terms, EFT brings balance back to the disruption in the qi flow and this eliminates the resulting difficult emotions.
“EFT is a simple technique and you will learn in a few minutes how to do it for yourself. However, PTSD is usually not simple and one would benefit from the guidance of a skilled EFT practitioner.”
Together, EFT and Chinese medicine are a dynamic combination to restore balance and peace to someone suffering from PTSD. Even though results with EFT are usually very rapid, complex issues such as PTSD may take 4-12 sessions. We will work at your pace with compassion, patience and kindness.
